You’ve discovered a Bin Bypass!
How does it work?
Instead of throwing your beverage containers away or carrying them home with you, Bin Bypass stations provide a convenient way of temporarily storing them for others in your community to collect.
This allows others to return the containers a for a financial incentive that would have otherwise (literally) gone to waste.
Key benefits
Bin Bypass units contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable and equitable society.
Social benefits:
Provides an easy, accessible and more dignified way for people to collect containers, including members of the community who rely on container returns for income.
Supports public healthy and safety, ensuring people don’t have to rummage through bins.
Environmental benefits:
Reduces litter in our environment.
Encourages recycling, reducing the reliance on raw materials.
Where is my local container exchange/reverse vending machine?
You can find your local return centre here.
Did you know?
Nearly all Australian states and territories now have a container deposit scheme (CDS), with Victoria’s launching in late 2023 and Tasmania’s due to launch soon.
While these schemes have significantly improved recycling rates significantly, it’s estimated over three billion containers are still not recycled each year in our country.
As well as the environmental impact this has on our environment, these containers are worth a staggering $300 million in container refunds!
So, when you’re out and about, don’t let your containers end up in landfill or as litter. Do your bit and use a Bin Bypass instead.
